Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 September 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how The Island Market (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use lammaisland.hk and related services, including our admin tools and optional Facebook Page sharing features.
1. Who we are
The Island Market is a community platform for Lamma Island, Hong Kong. We publish business listings, events, ferry information, festival sites, and tools for authorised organisation administrators.
2. Information we collect
Depending on how you use the site, we may collect:
- Account information — name, email address, and password (stored securely via our authentication provider) when you create a member or admin account.
- Business and organisation information — profiles, menus, events, photos, and contact details submitted by authorised administrators.
- Usage information — basic technical data such as browser type, pages visited, and interactions with site features (for example ferry timetables or business profiles).
- Communications — information you send when registering for events, placing orders where enabled, or contacting businesses through the platform.
3. How we use information
We use information to:
- operate and improve the website and admin portal;
- display public business, event, and community content;
- authenticate users and manage accounts;
- process registrations, orders, or bookings where those features are enabled;
- respond to support requests and maintain security.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Facebook Page connection (Meta)
Authorised organisation administrators may optionally connect a Facebook Page to publish “Latest News” posts from our admin portal to that Page.
When an administrator connects a Page, we store:
- the selected Facebook Page ID and Page name;
- a Facebook Page access token provided by Meta during OAuth authorisation;
- identifiers returned by Meta after a post is published (for example a Facebook post ID).
We use this information only to:
- let authorised admins publish content they create in our admin portal to the connected Facebook Page;
- show connection status in the admin portal;
- record whether sharing succeeded or failed.
We do not access private Facebook messages, friends lists, or personal timelines beyond what Meta provides for Page management with the permissions you approve during connection. Administrators can disconnect a Page at any time from the Profile tab in the admin portal, which removes the stored connection from our systems.
Meta’s own terms and privacy policy also apply when you use Facebook Login and when content is published to Facebook. See Meta’s Privacy Policy.
5. Where data is stored
Data is stored on secure cloud infrastructure (including Supabase) and may be processed in regions where our service providers operate. We take reasonable steps to protect information against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse.
6. Sharing with third parties
We may share information with service providers who help us run the platform (for example hosting, authentication, email delivery, maps, or payment processing where enabled). These providers are permitted to use the information only to perform services for us.
Public content you or your organisation publish (such as business profiles, events, or news posts) is visible to website visitors. Content shared to Facebook is published to the connected Facebook Page according to your instructions.
7. Cookies and local storage
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and operate core site features. You can control cookies through your browser settings, but some features may not work if cookies are disabled.
8. Your choices and rights
Depending on applicable law, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, or to object to certain processing. Member account holders can update some details in their account area. Organisation administrators can update business profile information in the admin portal.
To request help with account or privacy matters, contact us using the details below.
9. Children
Our services are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
